Armenia to implement new anti-AIDS programme in 2007-11
Yerevan, 1 March: The Armenian government approved today [1 March] the programme for fighting HIV/AIDS worth 33m dollars for 2007-11, Deputy Health Minister Hayk Darbinyan told a news conference today.
He said 25 per cent of the money will come from the state budget, the rest will be received from donors. Darbinyan said the new programme is the continuation of a similar programme implemented in 2005-06.
According to official data, there are 436 AIDS patients in Armenia currently; 2,800 others are HIV infected. In 2006, 22 people died of AIDS in Armenia compared with 23 who died in 2005.
